Environmental Product Declaration
First timber staircase manufacturer to receive EPD
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), is a verified document that reports environmental data of products based on life cycle assessment and other relevant information, and in accordance with the international standard ISO 14025 (Type III Environmental Declarations).
Staircraft is the first staircase manufacturer in Europe to receive an independently third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration.
As the market leader it falls upon us to set the standard and take the lead on certain initiatives, even if there is no industry mandate or regulation in place to enforce change. Completing an EPD for Stairs in September 2014 and then following this through with an EPD for the Stair Joist and Deck in Q4 2015 will be a first in our industry.
We see this as a natural evolution of our environmental policy, which will support and go beyond our Chain of Custody Certification with FSC and PEFC. Taking the lead in delivering practical and also sustainable solutions are in our view one and the same, and form part of our assessment criteria for the innovations we develop.
We are committed to providing clear, transparent and quantitative data to support the products we supply. Our customers are held accountable and we must support their claims. Ultimately we know that sustainability beyond CoC will become not only a procurement directive but will also feed into the BIM agenda, and we want to be able to provide full and complete third party and independent documentation when the time comes and the construction industry demands hard data not greenwash.
